Every September, the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood gathers to celebrate the harvest moon, Still Creek—one of the last streams in Vancouver still running above ground—and the cultural and artistic diversity of East Van. Presented by Still Moon Arts Society for more than two decades, the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival begins with a Harvest Fair in Slocan Park. At dusk, a procession of lanterns, musicians, and festival-goers winds along the edge of the ravine to a streamside installation of illuminated art. The celebration grew out of decades of community work to restore the creek, where chum salmon returned to spawn in 2012 after an absence of 80 years.
